JOB SUMMARY Responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation. Coordinates the activities provided by the support service department relating to the assigned patients.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Preferred: ACLS
EXPERIENCE Required: Minimum of 1 year of acute care setting
Preferred: Cardiac Cath Lab experience preferred but will consider Emergency Department or ICU applicants.
Special Skills and Abilities: Required: BLS
Preferred: ACLS
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Required: Currently registered with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners Basic Life Support Certification - BLS
Preferred: Current ACLS required within 6 months of hire date.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Specific: 1) Knowledgeable in Cardiac and Peripheral Anatomy and Physiology. (EF) 2) Accurate Documentation and charging. (EF) 3) Proficient in administering drugs used in the Cath lab. (EF) 4) Critically thinks and anticipates the needs of the patient and/or physician. (EF) 5) Proficient in identifying and using Cath Lab Equipment. (EF) - Coronary vs. Peripheral - Monorail vs. Rapid exchange - Intra-Aortic Balloon PUMP - LVAD - Balloon vs. Stent - Compliant vs. Non-compliant - Temporary Pacemaker - Atherectomy device - Thrombectomy/aspiration devices - Sealing / closure devices - Hemodynamic Monitoring Equipment 6) Participates in the safety management and infection control programs. (EF) 7) Performs, supervises, and/or directs the nursing care of the patient by performing the duties of the circulating nurse
based upon hospital policies / procedures and the AORN Standards. (EF) 8) Directs and/or assists, as necessary, with the cleaning, sterilization, and storage of instruments, equipment and
supplies. (EF) 9) Administers medications, starts intravenous infusions, and assists anesthesia personnel as needed. (EF) 10) Assists with the orientation of new personnel. (EF) 11) Proficient with scrubbing Cardiovascular procedures (EF) 12) Takes call as assigned. (EF)
Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospitals Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations. Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospitals Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.
