Facility Information

General job duties.  Types of procedures required. 

Caring for all ages and medical emergencies, including but not limited to, trauma’s, stokes, stemi, cardiac arrests, Procedural sedation, IV’s, EKG’s, assist with suturing, transferring patients, caring for inpatiens being held in the ED. Pushing carts (transferring patients from unit to unit).   

Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. 

We use EPIC ASAP charting, Phillip monitors, accudose medication dispensing system, Aleris pumps.


Required skills and minimum years of experience.  

Pt assesments, IV’s, charting, able to care for a multiple patients at a time, (generally 4-5), organized, medication knowledge. Would like them to have at least 2 years experience.


Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. 

Need to have ACLS, TNCC, PALS, NIHSS (STROKE), BLS.  


Shift or schedule requirements. 

There will be Shift work to include Days, Nights, Mids, they will never be working alone, there is no call, they will be working every other weekend, and they will be scheduled to work every other holiday. We do 12 hour shifts, starting at 5am-5:30pm, 9am-9:30pm, 11am-11:30 pm, 2pm-2:30am, 5pm-5:30am. 


Floating to over units/departments. 

This would be very rare that they would float, if they did it would be to a med-surg area, but the lilelihood of floating will be very rare.


Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept. 

The ED is a 23 bed unit, we are a level 2 trauma center, we see about 110 patients in a 24 hour period. 


Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. 

4-1 to 5-1, based on acuity and staffing.


Dress Code: 

Nurses wear blue scrubs


Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program. They have to go through a week with our LEAD center for skills orientation and charting, along with a general orientation to the facility. During this time while at the LEAD center to get their scheduled 36 hours a week we will have them come to the ED to start their orientation in the department, having a preceptor work with them giving them an additional 1-2 shifts of orientation in the department.
