Peds Travelers might be asked to go be a resource for a float shift in the Peds ED. They will not ever take care of ED patients, nor will they have a full assignment. They will be there to help with IV's, Meds, etc; just to be helpful
These travelers will be floated to other peds areas, but they will be given an assignment that is similar to their home unit. A general peds traveler would never be given a PICU assignment, rather a general peds patient, located in PICU. They will be given a brief unit orientation, but cross training will not happen.
FLOATING REQUIRED PSCU, CTH, PICU, Peds ED for admitted patients.PICU travelers may also float to NICU.
Certifications required: BCLS, PALS Skills required: Vents, working knowledge of inotropic drips Experience: 1 year Average Daily Census: 15, 20 beds Staffing Ratios: 1:2 Night shift: 1900-0730 Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory distress/failure, Renal failure, Trauma, CRRT, ECMO Heme/onc, Mulit system organ failure, Suicide attempt Special Procedures/Unit Details: CRRT, ECMO Orientation: 36 hours; 2 shifts in PICU; 1 shift to cross train to all 4 float areas; 1st week 12 hours of hospital orientation as well
