Unit Description

20th Floor Description:

The Pediatric Surgery/Transplant Unit is a 48 bed unit with 8 hemodialysis rooms, and 4 negative/positive isolation rooms located on the 20th floor.  Patients are admitted to one of 8 services:  Kidney, GI, Pediatric General Surgery, Ortho, ENT, Plastics, Nephrology, Transplant (intestinal, liver, kidney), or Urology.  All admissions are overseen by an attending physician.  The medical team can consist of: resident, fellow, and /or advanced practice nurses.  All patients are cared for by a dedicated Registered Nurse and may have a certified nursing assistant assigned to help care for them as well.  The skill mix is 87% Registered Nurse and 13% assistive personnel with a budgeted NHPPD 8.02 and ADC of 37.

 

The Pediatric Surgery/Transplant Unit cares for patients from birth to 18 years of age, and some young adults with chronic medical conditions.  Most common diagnosis:  Hirschsprung’s Disease, bowel obstruction, abdominal tumors, biliary atresia, liver failure, etc.
