MICU Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description This position is for a skilled Registered Nurse specializing in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The RN will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive patient management. Shift Details The RN will work on a rotating schedule that includes day and night shifts, with assignments based on departmental needs. Shift assignments are subject to review every four weeks, with adjustments made based on staffing requirements. Patient Population The RN will care for adult and geriatric patients. Common diagnoses include: Oncologic Emergencies Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Pneumonia Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) Gastrointestinal Bleed Neuromuscular Disease Drug Overdose Consequences of Oncologic Treatment Pulmonary Hypertension Autoimmune Disorders Sepsis Special Procedures and Unit Details The RN will be involved in the management of patients requiring advanced interventions, such as: Mechanical Ventilation Pulmonary Artery Catheter Placement Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) Arterial Pressure Monitoring Cardiac Monitoring Chest Tube Insertion Central Venous Catheter Placement Chemotherapy Administration Complex Medication Regimens Participation in Clinical Trials Plasmapheresis Many patients may have underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions that require procedures such as bronchoscopy or endoscopy. Qualifications Certifications Required: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Basic Life Support (BLS) National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Skills Required: Experience with Ventilators IV Starts Computer and Charting Requirements Proficiency in computerized charting is necessary, with experience in EPIC being required.
