Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Information This is a mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit providing care to medical oncology patients. The unit consists of approximately 24 beds in the PCU and 24 beds in the MS Tele section. Schedule If you accept a rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of shifts, depending on the department's needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every four-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are contingent upon staffing priorities at that time. Patient Diagnoses The patient population includes a variety of diagnoses, ranging from solid tumors to blood cancers, with a high acuity level. While chemotherapy competence is not required, training opportunities are available, including a two-day chemotherapy course. Special Procedures/Unit Details Pediatric patients are rarely cared for on this unit, typically by permanent staff. There is a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention for patients. Special Equipment B450 monitors with a GE telemetry system Bladder Scanner Alaris pumps Continuous Bladder Irrigation PCA Pumps Requirements Minimum of 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required; oncology experience preferred but not mandatory. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required. Ability to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity levels. Previous travel experience is preferred.
