Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Information This role is within a mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit that cares for medical oncology patients, featuring approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds. Schedule If you accept a 12-hour rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both based on departmental needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, though changes are subject to staffing priorities. Patient Diagnoses The unit serves a diverse patient population with various diagnoses, including solid tumors and some blood cancers, and has a high acuity patient population. Although chemotherapy competence is not required, professional development opportunities are available, including a 2-day chemotherapy training course for those interested. Special Procedures/Unit Details Pediatric patients may occasionally be cared for on this unit, but their presence is rare and typically managed by permanent staff. Pediatric experience is not required for agency registered nurses. There is a strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and measures to prevent patient falls. Special Equipment B450 monitors GE telemetry system Bladder Scanner Alaris pumps Continuous Bladder Irrigation PCA Pumps Requirements A minimum of 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required; oncology experience is preferred but not mandatory. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required. Registered nurses are required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity levels.
