Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the side effects of serious illness. This unit is dedicated to managing symptoms for patients undergoing treatment, including uncontrolled pain, severe nausea/vomiting, failure to thrive, and fatigue, thereby enhancing their quality of life. The ideal candidates are medical-surgical nurses looking to enhance their palliative care skills while also floating between other high-acuity units. Responsibilities Provide symptom management for patients in palliative care. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop comprehensive care plans. Support patients and families through emotional and psychological challenges related to serious illness. Monitor and document patient progress and responses to treatment. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of acute care RN experience required. Current BLS certification is required. Ability to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed. Previous travel experience preferred. Experience with EPIC electronic health record systems is required. Shift Information The position requires a commitment to a 12-hour day/night rotating schedule, which may include a combination of days and nights based on department needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every four-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and will be based on staffing priorities.
