Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU Job Description This position entails providing care in a mixed acuity unit that caters to both Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical Surgical (Med Surg) patients. This busy surgical floor requires adaptability and proficiency in managing diverse patient needs. Staffing and Scheduling Staffing ratios aim for 1:4, though may extend to 1:5. Weekend staffing will vary based on unit requirements. No set or blocked scheduling, as this is not available for permanent staff. All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4 weeks, with potential changes based on staffing priorities. Patient Population Adults Geriatrics Common Patient Diagnoses Surgical Oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma Hepatobiliary: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract cancers, neuroendocrine Colorectal: colon, rectal cancer Plastics: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma Special Procedures and Unit Details Chemotherapy administration Blood transfusions IV Antibiotics Managing oncologic emergencies and cytokine release syndrome Insulin and Heparin drips Emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention strategies Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience At least 1 year of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Required Certifications BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Preferred Certifications ONS Certification in Chemotherapy Technical Skills Familiarity with computerized charting, specifically EPIC Parking Options Parking permits are available through the designated service provider: WMC Monthly Permit: Access to the garage 24/7. WB Annual Permit: Access to specified garages on weekends and holidays; includes shuttle service. CXS Annual Permit: Access to multiple garage locations on weekends and holidays. Refunds may be available for unused future months for annual permits, subject to the particular policies of the parking service.
